Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering formerly known as Department of Mechatronics Engineering was established in 2003 with B.E. and M.S. degree programs. PhD program in Mechatronics Engineering started in 2015 with emphasis in research areas of robotics, sensors & actuators, industrial automation and intelligent energy systems. Mechatronics is a necessity of the industry in Pakistan and holds significant importance in System Design. Over the past few years utilization of Mechatronics has been heavenly penetrated in all aspects of life. The combination of engineering principles with biological knowledge to address medical needs has contributed to the development of revolutionary and life-saving concepts such as; artificial organs, surgical robots, advanced prosthetics, new pharmaceutical drugs, kidney dialysis and many more. In the light of emerging trends, Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering was launched in 2019.

Competent professionals constitute the faculty of Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering. Various research articles have been published and presented in international conferences and well reputed journals by the faculty on regular basis. The department holds an encouraging research environment through number of established research groups. The faculty educates students with adequate knowledge to enable them efficiently interpret and solve complex engineering problems.

Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering has well equipped laboratories including CNC machines, robotics and industrial automation, thermal sciences, control systems, mechatronics system design, embedded systems, mechanism theory, mechanical design computing, physics, medicine, chemistry and for various core courses of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering. In addition a MEMS research lab is established as a part of National Center of Robotics and Automation. There is also a very strong affiliation with the Fazaia Medical College (FMC) and PAF hospital, Islamabad that creates tremendous opportunities for inter- departmental and industrial scale problem solving research prospects. The hospital possess state of the art equipment and a very capable Biomedical Department.
